There are three levels of Reiki. The first activates physical healing and allows the practitioner to rebalance physical causes by means of the laying on of the hands, very gently and through the use of certain ancient sacred symbols and the intention of the practioner to eliminate the effects of those causes. "Where there is no cause there can be no effect" this is a Law of Physics. By removing the cause of the physical imbalance in the Spirit/Mind/Body connection the body's immune system is activated and a natural healing process is begun. Sometimes the effects are immediate and dramatic, and sometimes the effects are gradual and almost unnoticeable. The practitioner does not heal. Reiki in cooperation with the body's own inner wisdom does the healing. The practitioner does not need to know what the cause of the imbalance is. Reiki is the quintessence of Universal Intelligence and seeks out the cause and removes it whether it be past, present or future. However, the practitioner can "Scan the patient" and intuit through enhanced intuitive perception according to their various abilities. Some "see" or "feel" or "sense" hot and cold spots, or sometimes even pain in the patient which guides them as they work.
Second Degree Reiki empowers the practitoner to treat Spiritual/Mental/Emotional causes and imbalance and with the ability to send Distance treatments through intention and visualization techniques. In this degree training sacred symbols are added for doing Distance treatments. It is important to note that persons who have done distance healing before taking the Second Degree find that their abilities are greatly enhanced by this attunement.
Third Degree Reiki does not by any means conclude or end the journey however. This degree empowers the practitioner to pass attunements to others, but the real purpose of this degree is to assist the practitioner in mastery over their own lives and to stimulate accelerated spiritual growth. This degree is often called the Master Degree for this reason. However, some teachers divide Third Degree and Master and sometimes call the latter Master Teacher, for the dedication here is in teaching and passing attunements to students. The master teacher takes on the responsibility of a lifelong relationship with his students and it is a great honor and duty. But the learning does not stop there for we are always learning and growing and life is a journey, not a destination.
